Licensed practical nurse education includes program that prepares

individuals to provide nursing care under the direction of a RN which

stand for registered nurse or a dentist or even a physician. Licensed

practical nurse educationis all about educating oneself. As even if one

has a bachelor degree in nursing these programs involves on-the-job

training and informal training with workers who are already experienced.

That means a LPN has to work under another experienced licensed

To pursue a licensed practical nurse program a high school diploma or a

GED (General Education Development) is required. There are almost

1500 technical, vocational and community colleges that offer licensed

practical nurse programs. Anatomy, nursing fundamentals, mental

health, psychology, practical internships etc is included in the Licensed

practical nurse education programs. Those who want to become a

licensed practical nurse should be caring, sympathetic, and should have

good communication skills and sound decision making capabilities all

these qualities helps in the nursing field. Different training courses like

pharmacology, hearing impaired patients, hand hygiene etc are available

for licensed practical nurses. LPNs always have the opportunity to

continue education and earn certificates in areas such as long term

care. Though the programs to become a licensed practical nurse may

spread over only a year but LPNs can specialize in particular health care

areas and can also work in variety of health care settings. As there is a

dearth of trained nurses LPNs can pursue advanced training programs if

they want to become Registered nurses.
